As one of your customers and a person with celiac disease (CD) (gluten-sensitive
enteropathy) and a member of Celiac Sprue Association, I ask you to please consider expanding the labeling of your products. Please identify the source of the listing ingredients-especially when made from wheat, barley, rye or oats (WBRO).
Celiac disease is an auto-immune disorder wherein the body responds to the ingestion of (WBRO) in any manner, form or quantity by attacking the small intestine. The resulting damage can cause severe diarrhea, nutrient malabsorption, and certain types of cancer.
Currently, the only known treatment for this disease is a life-long adherence to a gluten-free diet. This means that in order to remain healthy, a person with the disease must avoid all contact with food, drug and any other product that contain WBRO or any of their derivatives.
Therefore, it is imperative for my health and well-being that I know, not only what ingredients are in a particular drug, but also the source of those ingredients as well. Without accurate information, I must choose to not purchase the item. Not only does this restrict the number of drugs I can use, it also reduces the number of products from which you receive profit.
Please consider increasing source information for both active and inactive ingredients to better serve your consumers. You will serve not only the celiac community, but all those who deal with food allergies and sensitivities. Thank you for your time in this matter.
