Dear Representative (name) or Senator (name):
Thank you so much for the support of the addition to the Food Allergen Labeling And Consumer Protection Act of 2004 to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to establish labeling requirements with respect to allergenic substances foods.
(Introduce the legislation you want to discuss, and state the purpose of the letter.)
As a person with CD, I must avoid wheat, barley, rye, oats and their derivatives in all forms to remain healthy. Therefore it is imperative that I am able to identify the ingredients in everything I consume. Medications present a special problem in generic and name brands since there are no federal requirements to provide the source of filler ingredients to consumers. Because celiac disease affects one in 130 people in the United States, this is an important issue for many Americans.
We are concerned about the health risk to those of us who have Celiac Disease when the use of generic drugs is becoming more and more prevalent. Please study the enclosed documents concerning CSA, celiac disease and our concerns about generic drugs. You or your staff may contact me for more details on how legislation could help.
(In a few paragraphs combine the purpose of the letter to how it relates to you personally).
As members of CSA we are, as our motto states, “Celiacs Helping Celiacs”.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this important issue.
Yours truly,
