A full spectrum of enthused medical oriented presenters on Friday.  

Each person brings the depth that comes from being actively involved in celiac disease research.  These young investigators are taking on complex issues relating to gluten disorders of all types. These physicians show a deep interest in the health and welfare of patients. We are so honored to be able to assemble this group of involved physicians who truly care. Watch for more postings detailing the sessions.

Dr. Ben Lebwhol Ben Lebwhol, M.D., M.S.  is assistant professor of clinical medicine and epidemiology at Columbia University medical Center. Based at the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University, Dr. Lebwhol is collaborating with institutions in the United States and abroad in the areas of the epidemiology, patterns of care, and natural history of celiac disease. Prior to his faculty appointment at Columbia, Dr. Lebwhol wall was a post-doctoral fellow in a National Institutes of Health-funded Training Program in Cancer-Related Population Sciences. He attended medical school at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and also received a Master’s degree in patient oriented research from the Department of Biostatistics at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia. He is the recipient of the Celiac Support Association research Grant which helpsupport its ongoing collaborations with the Epidemiology Unit at that Karolinska  Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

Robert Mangione Robert A. Mangione, Ed.D., R.Ph. Key researcher on a National Institutes of Health grant to review the extent of gluten ingredients in medications. Dr. Mangione is serving as the Interim Provost and Professor of Pharmacy for St. John's University in Queens, New York.  Dr. Mangione’sfamily life involves adaptations for celiac disease, too.

Armin Alaedini Armin  Alaedini, M.D.  isAssistant Professor of Medical Sciences at Columbia University's Department of Medicine, Institute of Human Nutrition, and Celiac Disease Center. His research is aimed at understanding the link between the immune response to foreign antigens and the development of the disease processes affecting the nervous system. Areas of research in his laboratory include investigation of immune mechanisms in celiac disease, schizophrenia, autism and Lyme disease. Dr. Albini is the recipient of grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Stanley Medical Research Institute and the US Department of Defense.

Amy DeFelice Amy DeFelice, M.D.  is an Associate Clinical Professor in Pediatrics, and that their Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Dr. DeFelice serves as the Director of the Nutritional Support Service, at Children's Hospital New York, which provides Inpatient, and Out-Patient services to children with special nutritional needs.  Dr.  DeFelice is the Co-Director of the Fellowship Program in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. She is also the division representative to Children's Hospital of New York, Quality Assurance Council. Dr. Amy DeFelice’s special interest is in celiac disease and is a member of the Columbia University Celiac Center. She lectures extensively on the subject of celiac disease. Dr. Amy DeFelice maintains her clinical offices, where she sees patients at Children's Hospital of New York – Presbyterian, New York, Columbia Eastside in New York City, and Northern Westchester Hospital, Mount Kisco New York.
